Being a contemptible pathetic
hypocrite can be cured."

I just love exposes, although I hope I will never get to see myself as starring in one.

I just posted somewhat about gay friends today.

Hypocrisy and religious extremism go hand in hand. I bet bin Laden goes crazy with the booze and the hookers.

My religious mother defends these people by pointing out that they are only fallible human sinners. Unfortunately, this christian attitude only perpetrates hypocrisy.
When someone believes that homosexuality is a sin that can be cured by the love of God & that person can't stay away from that sin...hypocrisy must seem to be a viable option. Although the person believes they are a horrible sinner, they can at least appear to be a good Christian to others, as they fight the sin that engulfs them.

I could not imagine living like that. That mindset demeans individuals and the human race at large. It creates so much unnecessary hate & self loathing.

the saddest thing is that the guy is still stuck in it, even after this expose. Well, the sting has gone out of his tail, anyway.

I should think that Christians, having the guidance of the Holy Spirit, would act better than the rest of us who are completely on our own.

Your mother, like most of us, sees what she believes. But when people are blinded by religion, they won't even consider other possibilities.

No one has a problem with a little fallibility. We've all made mistakes. We've all hurt someone else. We've all been caught in a lie. We've all done things we condemn in others.

Most of us can get away with it because we are not in the public eye and have not proclaimed that these behaviors are abominations and god will send anyone who acts on them to eternal damnation.

Jimmy Swaggert, Ted Haggard, Larry Craig, Mark Foley, George Rekers, and so many others act all "holier than thou," loudly and publicly condemning perceived sins in others, then do exactly what they have preached against. At that point it is not fallibility, it is hypocrisy.

Rita also mentioned self-loathing. Just think how free Rekers would feel if he could act on his own sexual inclinations instead of hating himself because of a couple of passages in a centuries-old book that has little relevance in today's world.
