FREETHOUGHTS:

I will post my thoughts and those of others on issues of religion and nonbelief, including freethought quotations gathered since I was 12. Help in identifying sources of quotations without complete attribution information will be appreciated. Keywords will be printed in red in quotations.

In my attempt to show that being religious is not a guarantee of moral behavior, I am posting a series of reports on the bad behavior of religious people past and present. This in no way implies that most religious people are immoral. Most religious people I know are good, ethical people. Likewise, most of the non-religious people I know are good ethical people. The religious do not have a monopoly on morality.

MONITORED COMMENT POLICIES:

I welcome opinions that are not abusive or preachy. I will not publish comments that are unrelated to this blog's focus. Because of all the spam-ad comments I have received in the past, I have blocked Anonymous comments.

Because I believe the Bible and other "holy" books are fiction, using the Bible to attempt to prove that a god exists, would be like using the Cinderella story to convince me that a pumpkin can be changed into a coach by a fairy godmother.

About Me

C Woods: I grew to doubt my parents' Christian beliefs when my family read the Bible cover to cover, several times. As a teenaged girl, I was especially horrified by the way most religions treated women. (And this was long before the feminist movement.) Frequently, I have been disappointed by people who claim to be religious, yet have behaved in unethical ways. I came to the conclusion that all religions cannot be true, but they can all be false. Today, I consider myself a freethinker. I base my beliefs on reason, not faith. I pull my life philosophies from many sources. Certainly a few come from religious origins. Others come from sources as varied as Confucius, Thomas Jefferson, Bertrand Russell, and Mark Twain.
